Candid & controversial - not "just another" round-table

About the Speaker:
JP Hanson
JP Hanson is a global keynote speaker and the CEO of Rouser, an international brand development consultancy firm headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, with intense focus on the brand building aspects of business strategies, primarily pertaining to marketing.

At the very core of Rouser is a firm belief in critical thinking and freedom from hype. Never one afraid to step on toes, expect a thought-provoking speech guaranteed to make you see the world differently.

Presentation focus:
∙ The relationship between brand and innovation
∙ Defining innovation in a digital world
∙ Positioning, price and product
∙ Technology vs behavion
∙ Employees and innovation - the fear of negative vs the desire of positive
∙ Modern innovation strategy

Overview:
Despite massive investments, innovation remains an often-frustrating pursuit for many companies and brands. Innovation initiatives frequently fall flat, while successful legacy and startup brand innovators alike find themselves unable to sustain performance. Why is it so hard to build and maintain the capacity to innovate in today’s digital world? The answers are commonly rooted in the absence of a true-to-brand innovation strategy and lack of understanding of growth drivers.

Without objectives that align the business, different parts of an organization can easily wind up pursuing conflicting priorities that are not only counterproductive, but harmful to potential market share gain and long-term survivability.

A well-defined innovation strategy, whether routine, disruptive, radical or architectural, can not only ensure a brand that remains relevant to its target audience, but offers value to customers, company and employees alike. In order to develop it, companies must understand growth drivers, balance technology and psychology and recognize both the fear of the negative and the desire of the positive.

In this keynote, CEO of Rouser and international brand strategist JP Hanson will delve into the depths of strategy, technology and human behavior to provide the keys to innovation success and a thought-provoking perspective on business in the digital age.

Key take-aways:
1. Innovation is the key to sustained brand relevance
2. Without an innovation strategy, innovation can be directly harmful to chances of market share increase
3. Companies must understand both technology and behavior to successfully innovate in a digital age

Presentation focus:
· CHAGWA - Product-defined methodology Vs. PMO-defined methodology
· Using project management triangle for making right decisions
· Make the right decisions by keeping your DISTRANS level low

Overview:
In the past years many organizations have been drastically replacing Waterfall with Agile. The truth is that it is your PRODUCT that defines the methodology, not your PMO.

While agile project management gains momentum, organizations face the conflict if they need to organize their project management organization in a waterfall or an agile way. In practice there's also a third type of project management – change control driven projects – which makes the choice even more complex.

CHAGWA is a novel project management methodology that focuses on three key aspects: a set of processes that allow change, agile and waterfall projects in the organization, how management and governance is done for these projects, and how different types of projects are integrated. Clear and objective criteria are defined that help selecting of the right project management track, focusing on the Product instead of the organization.

CHAGWA comes with a number of templates that support the processes. The new concept of DISTRANS is defined, which helps in making choices on complexity and level of documentation in projects.

Key take-aways:
1. It's the product that defines how you run your project, not the PMO
2. Good managers keep a low DISTRANS
3. You can only run Agile projects if you trust your team

The World Today
We all have heard about the disruptions that are impacting our society and the business world: robotics, artificial intelligence, shared economy, blockchain, big data….

However, there is one extreme disruption that is affecting our world that media and academia have completely missed. For over 100 years’ organizations have been run and structured in a very similar way: hierarchical; in which power, budgets and resources are divided over departments, the so-called “silos”. Management and management theory was focused on how to run and optimize (efficiency) the business best. Projects were an addition, but hardly ever a priority.

Paradigm Shift
We are witnessing the rise of the Project Economy. The so-called gig economy is driven by projects.

Today, due to the speed of change witnessed in the past decade, this model has become obsolete. The day to day running of a business will soon be carried out by automation and robots, if not already done. Projects are becoming the essential part of any organization. My prediction is that by 2025, senior leaders and managers will spend at least 60% of their time selecting, prioritizing and overseeing the execution of projects.

This massive disruption is not only impacting the way organizations are managed. Every aspect of our lives is becoming a set of Projects. Some of the areas I see this massive transformation happening are:

Board of Directors: Board play a critical role in value creation and long term success of the organization. Conversely, ignorance of the accountability duties by director in these matters is a weakness in corporate governance which can have devastating consequences for corporations, destroying vast amount of value, often bringing corporations to the verge of collapse.
Education: For centuries, learning was achieved by memorising books and hefty material. Today, the leading educational systems, starting from early ages, apply the concept of projects to teach. Applying theories and experimenting through projects have proven to be a much better learning method, and will become the norm soon.
Careers: Not so long ago, professional careers were made in only one organization. Most of our parents worked for one company only. Today, we all go through several companies, for which we are best equipped if we approach them like a set of projects. Projects in which we apply the learnings from previous jobs, companies and industries. Whilst keeping developing for the next career move, often not known in advance.
Democracy: The current crisis that we are seeing in the political systems around the world have led to political academia propose new ways of governing countries. One of the most revolutionary experiments is being carried out in Northern Ireland. The Irish Constitutional Convention (ICC) - established by the Irish government in 2012 – will address a number of potential constitutional reforms through projects.

I have come to realise, that one of the reasons behind this massive shift is that, Projects are the best and only model that can exploit creativity and innovation on one side, as well as structure and discipline on the other.

I think the JUMP IT Forum is ideal because of mix of business and technology, as it relates to IT. So, in other words these days IT is really driving the economic growth; and everything is really IT. I'm starting this year with an Agile track, which has a big impact far beyond IT. See you next year!

FAQs

The whole is greater than the sum of its parts :)

We opted for two tracks conference set-up, to give people the chance to have a greater choice. Nevertheless, there are plenary sessions throughout the day – the opening key-notes and the panel-discussion is where the entire audience will be together.

The conference starts in joined room in plenary session, with an opening key-note by Theo Priestley, followed by a panel discussion. After that, the conference room will be divided into 2 sections to accommodate 2 separate tracks. Each presenter has 20-25 minutes for the speech + 5-10 minutes reserved for Q&A with the audience. The tracks continue after lunch. The afternoon plennary part, again in joined room will feature another panel discussion and the closing key-note by Antonio Nieto-Rodriguez. Altogether, there are 2 distinguished key-notes, 2 panel discussions with 4-5 panelists on each and 12 corporate cases presented throughout the JUMP IT FORUM, making it a total of 22+ presenters.

Yes, absolutely. You choose which sessions to attend throughout the entire day.
